What is the DOL Skills Test?
The DOL Skills Test (also known as the Driving Test) is a behind-the-wheel exam where you demonstrate your ability to operate a vehicle safely by completing a series of maneuvers. Passing this test is required to obtain your Washington State driver’s license.
What to Expect on the Driving Test
Duration: ~30 minutes
Passing Score: 80 out of 100

Backing Around a Corner
Control speed, check mirrors, avoid curbs
Parallel Parking
Judge space, use mirrors, avoid obstacles
Hill Parking
Use signals, avoid curbs, proper turning of wheels
Lane Changing
Use signals, check blind spots, transition smoothly
Turning
Follow road markings, control speed, yield properly
Stopping & Starting
Proper stops, safe following distance, smooth acceleration
Merging & Yielding
Merge safely, check mirrors, yield and communicate appropriately

Knowledge Test
What is the Knowledge Test?
The DOL Knowledge Test is a written exam that evaluates your understanding of Washington State traffic laws, road signs, and safe driving practices. Passing this test allows you to obtain a learner’s permit.
What to Expect on the Knowledge Test
Format: 40 multiple-choice questions
Passing Score: 32 correct answers
Duration: ~45 minutes
Languages Available: English, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese

A Washington Driver License (WDL#) number (obtained via the License Express pre-apply process)

A valid photo ID

- Study the Washington Driver Guide (available online in multiple languages)
- Take practice tests to familiarize yourself with the format
- Schedule your test at either our Seattle or Shoreline locations

- Second Attempt: $45.00 (Must call to schedule)
- Customer’s own vehicle must comply with state requirements including: functioning lights, brakes, seat belts, windshield wipers, valid registration, valid insurance, and clear visibility without windshield obstructions.
DOL Approved Skills Test with customer vehicle
- Second Attempt: $45.00 (Must call to schedule)
- Requirements: Valid Washington State ID or Learner’s Permit OR valid photo ID with birthdate and WDL#
- Customer’s vehicle must comply with state requirements including: functioning lights, brakes, seat belts, windshield wipers, valid registration, valid insurance, and clear visibility without windshield obstructions.
DOL Approved Testing Combo + 60 Min Warm-Up Drive
Promotion Price: $235 – SAVE $15
- First, pass the DOL-approved Knowledge Exam with us, then schedule your Skills Test. This package features a 60-minute practice session prior to your Skills Test to build confidence, refine maneuvers, and get comfortable with the Safety First vehicle before the test.
- A Safety First secured vehicle is provided.
- Requirements: Passed Knowledge Exam, WDL#, valid learner’s permit or foreign license with photo ID
DOL Approved Skills Test + 60 Min Warm-Up Drive

- This package includes a 60-minute practice session before the DOL-approved Skills Exam—perfect for building confidence and sharpening skills. It’s ideal for drivers who want extra time to refine parking maneuvers, get comfortable with the Safety First vehicle, or do a final prep before testing.

- Requirements: Passed, unexpired Knowledge Exam, WDL# and valid learner’s permit or foreign license with photo ID

- Requirements: Valid photo ID with birthdate and WDL# from the Washington Department of Licensing
